Watch the 2025 'Ace Your Application' webinar nowwell good evening all and thank you for joining us on a Monday evening uh on the last day of June and I really appreciate you dedicating some time to join us for this ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ year12 early admission webinar for 2025 my name is James Terry and I'm the parent and schools engagement specialist here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and it's my pleasure to host you tonight via this webinar and thank you for joining us either live this evening or via our recording that will be sent out to registrants i'm here on beautiful Darwal country here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ campus um so
I would um really like to pay my respects to local elders past present and emerging and acknowledge that this land was and always will be a original country so this evening is our 2025 early admission webinar ace your application we call it um just a bit of housekeeping before we get underway the Zoom chat function has been disabled however we have a Q&A function which we believe will you will find um really really effective this evening to jump in and throw in any questions that you might may have throughout um rest assured we will have a lot of questions um answered for you across the next hour um so we will navigate um a range of topics all related to early admission um so sit tight we will um more than likely cover a lot of the questions that you have floating in your mind um however if there's something we miss or something you'd like some deeper information on please feel free to use the question um function because we have a wonderful team on the back end that'll be able to help you out this session is being recorded um all attendees will be emailed a link to access a recording if you miss something or you have to duck away early um but um attending live this evening you can um ask questions via that function i'd like to um welcome some special guests and some friends that I've brought along this evening um to offer their insights their expertise and their experience um well credentialed experts I may say because these guys um have joined me the last year or two um in this webinar for previous um applicants for early admission here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and are really really experienced in navigating this with not only parents with carers with students with our schools um and we'll offer some really great insights across the next hour so say hello firstly to Dr ken Cliff from our URW School of Education ken's the head of teaching and learning in our school of ed welcome Ken hey James hi everybody great to have you with us on this Monday night hopefully we uh we might have caught up with you at open day on Saturday but if we're meeting you for the first time welcome to U great to have you along this evening Ken thanks for joining us and also we have a ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ student um because we always like to involve our students in these conversations and these sessions because they offer great insights not only on their journey um here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ currently but also their journey as a year 12 student and prior to that um and their um journey going through the early admission process themselves so
I'd like to welcome Piper Marshall who is a UW student as well hi Piper beautiful hey James thank you for having me um yeah welcome everyone to another one of our early admission webinars a few of you may have seen me the past couple of years if you've had older siblings or um anything that have gone through this process um but hopefully I would have met a lot of you at our school talks and open days and things like that um so yeah definitely encourage you to kind of take some notes down take screenshots whatever you need to do um but also if tonight isn't enough like James said we've got the recording um and our future students team are also fantastic if you do have any questions and things like that too great thanks Piper thanks for joining us so the session ahead um there's a little bit of a road map about what we'll be um offering you this evening um so naturally as I just mentioned we'll have um Ken and Piper offering some perspectives and insights throughout um we'll be we'll be um asking them for their for their experiences throughout the session um we will demystify and unpack what early admission is and how it works um we'll offer you some expertise on whether you are eligible how to register the six steps that you go through when applying um we'll explain that and unpack that we'll also talk about what's next after early admission has been undertaken and you've applied um and some of the important dates and opportunities that lie ahead and then we'll also unpack some frequently asked questions right at the end and show you how you can get further information and how to contact UW ahead and how we'll stay in touch with you i'm conscious that this evening we have an array of people in our audience um people from our schools whether they're teachers careers advisers leaders in our schools across New South Wales and beyond across Australia we'll also have our parents and carers and families joining us and also just as importantly or if not more importantly of course our year 12 students um who are joining us as well so welcome to the various um attendees who are joining us live tonight and also via the recording now
I'm conscious that a lot of families and a lot of students have been doing research throughout this year and prior to this year about what the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ offers we offer over 300 odd degrees in counting so we offer a range of degrees and courses across a range of study and discipline areas i'm not going to unpack um all of our degrees this evening um we have a website dedicated to that and other webinars and other events where we discuss a range of our UAW courses on the screen there is a snapshot of some of what we do um via our discipline areas um but
I really really encourage families if you didn't get to come to open day um that was hosted on the Saturday just gone um if you haven't got some of our um paper copies of our course guides um for 2026 or some of our other resources a really nice starting point to navigate some of our courses and unpack some of that information is via our course finder website um so if you look in um and Google our UW course finder website or type in that that link that's displayed on the screen you'll be able to really have a deep dive into some of our course handbooks and what our degrees are looking like here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ but this evening the main theme will be on early admission so if you're not aware early admission let's launch in has already commenced uh the application process that is it opened a couple weeks ago on the 16th of June however don't despair if this is new to you and that date wasn't um on your mind at the moment because it is open until the 8th of August so we have plenty of time and we leave that window of time open for a reason we understand that year 12 students and their families and their supportive schools are very very busy places our households and our student lives are very busy so we leave this opening window opportunity open for a couple of months um because we're conscious that students are very busy with major works with assessment tasks with trial exams and just life whether it's sport family work personal pursuits there's a lot going on so students can log in and have a little bit of delve into they are free to now apply um and they can launch their application by the website displayed on the screen and by the QR code displayed on the screen as well there's a whole host of information on our early admission home so who can apply so any student in 2025 this year who is studying in year 12 including international students so if we have any international students and their families joining this evening you are able to apply and if you're completing the HSC or an interstate equivalent across our various states and territories or the IB or an equivalent qualification you are able to apply which is great news you do not need to be obtaining an ATR to apply for early admission so that is one myth that I wanted to um debunk this evening um you do not need to be an ATAR eligible student you do need to be eligible the HSC or the equivalent qualification but you not do not need to be on an ATR pattern of study with your qualifications if you're a New South Wales and AT ACT student um we do a lot of the hard work for you in terms of um extracting your marks um and your details via Nessa and UA because your school has done a lot of the heavy lifting and provided that to Nessa previously so we will um pull that pull that um automatically for you so you don't need to be chasing your schools and your year advisers and teachers for those marks um however if you have um say for instance you're on a different pattern of study whether you're doing a compressed curriculum you may have done um the year 11 and year 12 course content for an HSC subject in the one year in year 11 or if you're undertaking the IB or another equivalent um there is an opportunity to upload those qualifications there is a section that you'll be prompted in in the early admission portal for you to upload those qualifications because we will require you to upload those and convert them into a PDF um and potentially compress them as well um for us to access those qualifications that you may have been undertaking course preferences and I might throw to Piper here as well piper thinking back to when you applied um I wanted to ask you did you apply for one degree because I know you are able to apply for two degrees potentially yeah I definitely decided to make the most of having the option to apply for two degrees and I think it's a really um good point that you touched on JT it's um important to know that you can do things that are in opposite kind of fields so
Xavier who is on the screen is actually an excellent example he started in engineering but also had a passion for music um so applying for things that you might think that yes you'd be good at but also your heart of hearts might want to to do as well keeps those options open um there is a little bit of time between when you you finish school and when you start university and your your mind might change um in that time um so definitely using both um preferences is a really really good thing um another thing to be to be mindful of especially with things um like your bachelor of exercise science or rehab or your double degrees um a lot of year 12 students kind of get a little bit gunshy and they think that they might not actually reach the potential um that a lot of us know that they can reach so my recommendation is always to kind of put that top preference in even if you think it might be that little bit out of reach um because the academics and the UAW staff are always going to kind of assess you and put you in the degree that we think you are going to kind of excel most at so um I can speak to exercise science and rehabilitation that's kind of that four-year course um but if they thought that you might not be ready they might give you an offer for either the three-year option with the Bachelor of Exercise Science or um a college UAW college pathway as well and I'm sure Ken can kind of elaborate on that a little bit more but my option is um well my advice is always kind of shoot for the stars and then we will help and support you um with those options as well yeah awesome advice Piper yeah I I'd absolutely reinforce that and say think hard about your two preferences and and yes we uh the staff at UW will work to make sure that we get you some sort of offer we're really we're really interested in you being here so we'll be thinking uh about you know both of your preferences but also thinking about okay if you're not quite there for one of those preferences yet do we have an alternate offer that we can make to to get you some certainty to get you some confidence uh and hopefully to help you you know keep working away while you focus in on your exams so yeah great advice Piper thanks Ken thanks Piper yeah some really nice insights there already um and I can see some questions coming into the Q&A and we will tackle some of these topics in the next half an hour or so as well um you will notice on the screen um there is one degree that won't be available by the early admission portal the bach of arts majoring in western civilization that degree um you can have a look at that degree on our website um there's a dedicated homepage for that degree that um has a separate application process and currently has an EOI um and some information on the website that currently isn't open for application just as yet um but you can certainly read into that and submit EOI for that degree as well separately um you'll also notice on the screen um some courses at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ are dedicated at uh different campuses as well and we'll talk about some of our campuses across the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ footprint um very very shortly um but just making sure we're selecting the right degrees at the right campus will be very very important as well and both courses are assessed equally um you might be aware you can now apply for two degrees as Piper mentioned um and we really encourage that even if you've got a remote interest in a second degree we may we recommend you may as well put that down and and have a shot um and we'll assess them both equally it's not to matter if you put um a degree as number one or number two a little bit different from UAC we will assess you equally for those degrees as well as having a look at some of your year 11 grades and your performances in the preliminary HSC or equivalent um curriculum that you've been studying and the assessment task you've undertaken at your school we will also have a look at some questions that we'll ask you to answer now these aren't trick questions these questions are designed to get to know you as a human and some of the incredible stuff that you are doing both at school and outside of school now academics in the faculties um such as Ken and others at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ want to get to know you as a human and want to get to know some of the incredible creative wonderful um pursuits that you've got um both inside the curriculum and outside the curriculum um so you'll notice on the screen there and we'll delve into some of these questions actually with Piper very very shortly she's going to give some insights and anecdotes into how she tackled some of these questions you'll notice those questions are called the indicators of success now this program early admission program at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ has been running across the last couple of decades and is a highly credential and reputed program that we look at very very closely each year and these indicators of success have informed us that if students are performing across these range of different character traits and skill sets this shows that they are indicating success as a university student are going to come in and be successful in their degrees and hence why we ask these questions and we will have a little bit of a look at these questions in a moment and then we assess them um so once the application period closes um and the portal closes our faculty such as Ken and others and his colleagues will start to have a little bit of a look at your indicators of success questions and your academic grades that we've been able to extract and have a look at and across the month of August and early September our faculties will have a look if you are a suitable candidate um and a candidate can be offered a conditional offer for that degree and you can focus on what you've got in front of you at school and what's going on in your personal life because we want you focusing on your exams and your academic pursuits to finish off your year 12 studies because equally this is really important as well to maximize your HSC outcomes and your HSC and HR results as well so hence why this is called early admission this is one way to come into university and we do it early so you can then focus on finishing your year 12 studies so we you can see now um you can see a trend we're looking holistically at applicants we're not just looking at academia we're also looking at some of the other things that you're doing and your pursuits outside of the classroom as well and your responses you'll notice on the screen there that we also will have a look if students have done the summer masterclass program and I know we may have families and students joining us this evening where students have undertaken that program or the year 12 future me program we'll be speaking with our UAW admissions team students who have completed those programs who have gone above and beyond and shown a real dedication um beyond the classroom um to complete those programs they will be flagged with our admissions team and that will add some further weight to your early admission application so kudos to those students who have done those couple of programs um we will certainly be letting our admissions team know that you've done those programs now the week of the 1st of September students will receive an email they may receive two emails if they've applied um for two courses and they will receive two outcomes via email and as Piper said earlier students may receive an alternative offer to the course they applied for and as Ken also mentioned we will work really hard and endeavor to match a student with their capabilities and their credentials to a degree and a course offering that suits their attainment levels and their application levels um and we will do that automatically um it's commonly known as an alternative offer or a slipback offer as we sometimes call it now all things going well as a plan A you may receive um your optimal outcome you may receive an email saying "Congratulations you've been offered a place in the bachelor degree that you applied for." And you may receive two offers um but also mentioning as Ken said you may receive an alternative offer to a related degree um and there's numerous examples of this happening across the years where students um may not have met um their optimal dream degree criteria that they apply for but the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ may be able to identify an alternative course related to their initial um goal and then students can work towards transferring over or moving into that dream degree once they come into university and and achieving that outcome ken did you want to add anything to that before we move forward yeah I've had lots of questions on Saturday about um about offers about alternative offers about college pathways i guess I'd probably just stress that there are a lot more pathways into university these days than you know maybe there were 10 definitely 20 years ago and so um yes like JT said hopefully you're getting two offers and that it's exactly what you're looking for but you should also um you know really be thinking about alternate offers and really be thinking about uh the university college which has free 14week programs that help you with university entrance in some areas uh these are great pathways to still make sure you're going to meet the goal that you've set for yourself uh and you're not going to let you know any kind of alternate pathway get in your way you're going to snap that alternate pathway up and and you're going to run with it so really good to be aware of those things thanks Ken yes as Ken mentioned um we have the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ College who is an institution that sits on the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ um grounds and geography here um at our campus and we have a relationship with the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ College where we can also offer you a packaged offer where if we don't think you're quite um meeting the criteria for one of our degrees you've applied for we may be able to offer you a related um diploma program or certificate program at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ College that then many many instances and times will then automatically um guarantee you a place into the first and if not sometimes the second year of the bachelor's degree at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ so some really really great alternative options as a plan B and a plan C if you don't get an offer for your um plan A degree that you've applied for so there's there's the steps six um reasonably straightforward steps and a couple of those steps um are very very um labor um less labor intensive they require just a couple of tick uh clicks of the mouse um so um only six simple steps that we hope makes it nice and streamlined and nice and efficient so step one if we go through the process you just need to register and commence the application process please um students use your personal email address please don't use your school email address because they tend to expire at the end of the year or early next year and if the university is trying to communicate with you about free and offers and setting you up to study that's going to be difficult if we don't have preferred address utilized please um create a password and remember that password um otherwise you'll be negotiating with UAT to access that so make sure you're recording that via your normal means you will require your Nessa number so if you don't have that please be in touch with your school and um the right people at your school will provide your NES number and you'll also need your UAC PIN um and that'll be simple to remember because you will only need to remember your four digits of your birthday so for instance on the screen the 30th of August would be 3008 as your UA pin there are some of the things that you'll need to kick off your application and that's what it'll look like that's a little screenshot of what the portal looks like this year um and remembering you can log back in resume an application um if you just want to kick it off even tonight um you can literally log in with an email address create your password and start logging in and having a bit of a play make sure if you're having issues logging in um making sure you're using the correct email remembering passwords and those type of things that's reasonably straightforward we're clever people in the room the important point I wanted to make this evening uh about in the personal details once you start creating your application in the early admission portal there is an opportunity to talk about any hardship or interruptions you may have had with your schooling so whether it's been an illness a disability impact or other personal circumstances and there are some summarized and listed on the screen that list isn't exhaustive um because we do know that there's an array of interruptions that interrupt students and families um study patterns attendance at school and ability to complete assessment tasks to their best of their ability there is an opportunity to upload evidence confidentially via our early admission portal um and there's also a text box for you to be able to type into and explain um some of those circumstances as well um which we believe is super important for students who may have had interruptions um because we want to be equitable to those circumstances so if you have had an impact um by disability illness medical or personal or financial circumstances um and otherwise there as you can see you can type in you can explain those circumstances um because we understand documentation isn't always black and white and sometimes does require some explanation so you can put into to um into the text box as well and explain those hardships and then that allows our faculties to have a look at that and take into consideration some of those circumstances we do recommend however you also um weave into your four question responses um some of those details as well because that then highlights as well how you may have overcome some of those barriers dealt with some of those hardships as well um and that that's important to reply to in their criteria responses as well additional details um this is reasonably straightforward um we will ask you a couple of questions if you're interested in some things um you can see on the screenshot on the screen right there i'm interested in finding out more about UAW scholarships i highly recommend ticking that box that's essentially saying yes I'm interested in money and I know 17 and 18 year olds will be interested in scholarships is that right Piper you probably ticked that box knowing you definitely definitely and it was worth every every second it took me to tick it thought you were going to say every cent but um yeah obviously obviously um if you are interested in scholarships um a really great little um thing to opt into and then your the university can contact you about relatable scholarships ahead because we will have a range of scholarships on offer in the weeks and months ahead um if you are interested in learning about student support services um whether that's disability accessibility and inclusion programs student support services orientation and transition programs um academic support services or otherwise you can opt in to receive some information about that and then if you're interested about accommodation there is an opportunity if you are relocating to ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and considering accommodation there's an opportunity to opt into some information there as well so
I encourage you to to certainly opt into those those questions or those um prompts and you can receive some up i've spoken about this um reasonably early on um so
I won't go into too much detail i will note though if you are an interstate student joining us or your family joining us um in this webinar please note that um you may notice that you aren't able to proceed forward with your early admission application and submit until we're able to access your grades and assessments and performance um on July 28th of this year um so rest assured if you are joining us from another state um outside of New South Wales in the ACT um we will have your portal set up and accessible to submit after July 28th um and that's just due to the fact that different states move on different timelines and us able to able to access your assessment and your your grade results so um you can still log in you can still have a look um still have a have a play in the portal but we won't be able to proceed forward with your application until after that date that's what the portal will look like um for year 12 students who are moving through in the qualifications section um your grades will automatically appear here so there's no need for you guys to be uploading things um they should automatically be uploaded u throughout moving forward to the course preferences for those of you in the audience this evening um who aren't aware the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Bulingong has a footprint across New South Wales um and also globally but we're talking domestically here tonight here in Australia um and as you can see on the map there we have a range of campuses coming from the Sydney metropolitan region all the way down from the south coast into the southern highlands and to the far south coast of New South Wales meaning that we offer a range of degrees in these regions and these townships um and in the early admission portal you can select degrees at all of these campuses that offer undergraduate degrees in 20126 so if you are interested in studying at some of our regional and metropolitan campuses from Liverpool to Southerntherland to ¾«¶«´«Ã½ to the Highlands to Shaw into the Urbal Be Valley you can opt in for the degrees that are on offer noting that some of these campuses don't offer obviously all undergraduate degrees that the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ campus offers so but
I just wanted to mention reasonably straightforward we've spoken about that so we might move forward that is what our screen will look like when you are starting to search and look for degrees that you're looking to apply for um you can type into the text box um and look for particular degrees in this instance on the screen you can see the bachelor of nursing this student is interested in and they're keen to study this at the Eurabella campus if they want to click on that one they can add that to their preferences and play with the degrees that they may be interested in and they can click the start date where they want to start now obviously that's a screenshot from the 2024 program um for for 2026 you would be selecting February 2026 and this is what this student decided to apply for a couple of years ago they were looking at the bachelor of primary education um and studying that one at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and they're also looking at the bachelor of nursing degree as well at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ so they were the two degrees that this young person added um and as I said it doesn't matter the order of preference um that you put that down and we will assess you equally for those two degrees now the questionnaires um and I think this is why a lot of students and families are joining us this evening to have some questionnaires i've mentioned the themes and topics that we look at the indicators of success now by on the screen by no means this is gold standard but these are just some suggested prompts to get young people thinking about what they might talk about in these questions and I'm going to pick Piper's brain very shortly about some of the things that she um discussed in her application and she's been kind enough to think back and have a little bit of a look at some of her criteria herself and share those in a moment but as you can see for the four questions there's a range of things you can talk about and a common mistake um some young people will make is trying to tell us too much within the 500 characters we give them as I've mentioned um on the screen previously we only have 500 characters um so not words characters so
Ken you might add some insights about some things that you've seen in the past about and through the best intentions young people will try and tell us a lot in those 500 characters what would you suggest how they should map that out if with the given the time the length of time that they've got yeah I think it's really important to try to work first of all on what's the question actually asking you for is it asking you for your organization is it asking you for a goal you've met uh is it asking you about your personal passion um working out what's this question looking for and then thinking about how you'll map those things in and you might need to do a little bit of a draft and reddraft it's not a lot of characters and so being concise probably means doing a bit of planning great thanks Ken and I thought this was valuable to add as well well um the Department of Education's recently um released a lot of research about 21st century employability skills and what our corporations our businesses and our industries and sectors out there in Australia and also I would suggest globally the types of skills that young people will need into the future working in our in our um in our society and you can see these directly relate to our indicators of success and some of these buzzwords and some of these key terms and some of these verbs that you can implement into your responses will shine through in your application when our faculties are starting to look at them now on the screen that is 457 characters um including the spaces so you can see the 500 characters gets chewed up pretty quickly um and there's different ways to go about this as we'll show you in a moment but
I just wanted to give give a bit of a gauge about what 500 characters looks like um it's only a few and that's what the screenshot looks like on our application portal um that's the free field text box where you can where you can type in and as Ken suggested I think it's a good piece of advice a lot of students will choose to draft their responses in Microsoft Word or another piece of software and then copy and paste them over and just check the formatting before they're copying and pasting them over have a bit of a play with the character space there will be a character countdown as you can see on the screen so we're not going to let you run blind um there is there it does tell you if you've gone bust over those characters um which is helpful but yeah once again just showing you what those type of characters look like so you can see basically what 200 odd characters looks like on the screen there so maximizing the effectiveness and the succinctness and the conciseness of your words is super important which is a key skill in academia as well writing to word limit i wanted to point out a couple of important um also um I guess um considerations for applying for a couple of our degrees here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and it's timely that we've got Ken in the audience tonight if you are applying for a education degree apart from the early years bachelor of education degree the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ on top of um Nessar will be asking you to um answer a couple of more questions in fact four additional questions um Ken do you mind um just talking about education applicants and what they'll be required because I know it is a very there are they are popular degrees at our university um and just wanted to get your thoughts on that please thanks James yeah absolutely yes nationwide uh there are some additional questions when students are thinking about becoming teachers and it's about uh looking at your soft skills things like your motivation your drive your communication the way that you might get on with people and interact with community and and family so these additional questions are starting to get at some of those things why you might want to be a teacher uh James said earlier early admission is about a holistic look at you these questions really take that and give those students that applying for education degrees a little bit of an opportunity to even stretch that out a bit more we really want to hear about you and and what drives you towards this really important vocation great thanks Ken so yes if you are applying for an education degree you will be prompted um and you will be contacted about those additional questions nursing applicants um additionally um there will be a couple of extra um criteria questions that you will need to tick um and submit um and this comes down to English language proficiency um and your completion at school um in your schooling in Australia um so you can see on the screen there that's a screenshot of what you will be asked um about your um schooling uh either here domestically or overseas um and also um a declaration that you are willing or willing to undertake or have previously undertaken an English language proficiency test um moving forward and that's a requirement by the um by the nursing society here domestically here in Australia um to work in our healthcare sector and our hospitals here in New South Wales and beyond so just a heads up for those couple of degrees in nursing and education there will be a couple of additional steps that you'll be required to to go through um now a tried and tested method um that um we'll talk about in a moment um but you can see on the screen that certainly parents and carers and careers of who are in the room this evening um would more than likely have seen this and agree with this um this and students as well you might be familiar with this um blueprint I guess and this tactic and strategy for writing criteria um similar to your English um tactics and strategy you use for writing English essays the peel or pedal method as they're commonly known um this gives you a nice acronym to break down a strategy for writing a criteria response so star the star principle very um searchable on the internet and Google um you can have a little bit of a look situation task action result and essentially telling us where you were what was happening the task that you undertook in those couple of first um letters of the acronym we would recommend only only dedicating a couple of lines and being really punchy and concise the real core of your answer will come into the action and what you actually did utilizing those really powerful verbs um and Ken being um the education academic expert in the room that's where he wants that English language and that proficiency and those verbs shining through i I have no doubt in those responses and then the result of course at the end um any good essay um will conclude with a quality plenary or conclusion um and quantifying what the actual outcome or result was so whether you um bumped up your biology grade from 75 to 82 or whether you gained representation in the state's um representative sporting team that you were applying and and triing for or whether you um fund raise x amount of dollars for your chosen charity or whether you undertook the leadership opportunity and achieved a particular outcome at your school whatever it might be um want to fire and tell us what the result was and wrap up that criterion response with a quality outcome as Well so here's where I throw to Piper being our resident student expert um and Piper's kindly um shown us how she went about things and Piper this was the first question that you wanted to chat to us tonight about the academic readiness and this this went down to I guess um those study strategies and that preparation that study environment that you spoke about in your response yeah definitely so
I think every year we do this webinar I'm feeling older and older these questions seem I think a few years old now but everything is still super relevant which is fantastic um like JT said before there's heaps of different ways that you can go about any of these um responses and what I did at my time was exactly what Ken and JT have said in the fact that you don't want to have a rough plan and what I often advise students to do is have a chat to your friends your parents your teachers all those people that you interact with on a daily basis they have a really good understanding of who you are and sometimes especially as we are in those later years of high school we tend to get a little bit shy and often um kind of underell ourselves and like it said on one of the previous slides that isn't the time um well early admission isn't the time to be underelling yourself um Ken and the other academics really want to know who you are and what you're capable of so um in my specific example for academic readiness I talked a lot about the processes that I did so things like detailed calendars and list thinking about prioritizing different tasks we know that a lot of um high school students have a lot on their plate um so thinking about those study environments that are really going to foster your productivity um so things where it might be a little bit quieter there's no interruptions it's comfortable um you can also talk about balancing demands um and I like to kind of stack a few of my responses with those specific examples and actions like we said but if I've got the space for it I um I like to add in something else like volunteering opportunities or just those buzzwords that kind of show that you are a very well-rounded person um because that's what essentially a uni student is they've got a lot going on and they're balancing a lot of things so you can see I really tried to um talk about the strategies that I used and how the resources I used to get there right and Piper we can see here in this one that you've answered particularly you went down the more I guess narrative format some students will choose to go via dot points um which is fine um just check your formatting if you are copying and pasting dot points over from a word document or um or using that type of format but writing in either way is absolutely fine it'll come down on to your writing style and your personal preference and potentially sometimes the way that that writing style links to the degrees you're applying for too we'll move forward to your motivation and passion question because I love this question no doubt Ken probably loves this question being an education academic and and looking at those passionate educators and teachers of the world of the future but
Poppy you chose to go down the path um in this response to talk about some of your historical experiences and also some of the goals that you've had and relatability to some of the volunteering as well that you've been through yeah definitely um so as was mentioned before I am a premed student so
I wanted to tie in a little bit of relevance to the degree I was um hoping to study at the time um but things about talking um about human anatomy um and then you can also see that I mentioned my own family's medical history because that was a a big influence in why I decided to go down that avenue of study um it can just be something that you're honestly just interested in like you may have a really keen interest on maths and you really really enjoy it and that is more than okay if that's what motivates you and that's what you're passionate about and you want to pursue a career in that tell them they want to know exactly why you are wanting to study the degree that you're wanting to um you other people might talk about um career outcomes especially with things like engineering nursing um teaching where there is that high demand and um especially when UAW has really strong um employer satisfaction kind of rankings i know that some people have mentioned that um I just wanted to tell a bit of a story um and go for more of the things that have really kind of underpinned um my decisions in that sense um again I I tried to kind of underpin some of that volunteering service and things um like the bedside manner that I thought that I would need later down the track um just to really align me um with what I thought was going to be necessary for that degree um so yeah you can see that the there is that link to the the choice of course and some of my extracurricular activities and interests as well right and Ken I'll throw to you as well um when you're looking at responses um and commonly for this question as well a lot of students will talk about family history as Piper has um and particularly in the educational context I guess parents who may have been inspirational teacher in their households or they may have come across an inspirational teacher or an engineer or nurse um nonetheless as well um is it enough just to say that or should they be delving into I guess some deeper strategies and experiences and why that's motivated them not just saying that they've had a family member be a nurse or a teacher and so on and so forth yeah I think it's great to point to those um role models wherever you might find them um that's who we connect to and many of those things you just described they're relational jobs you know nursing social work education it's about the relationships we form the fact that those people have had an impact on you a lasting impact you know I know they'd love to hear that we we love to hear that about them but if you can start to link that with what your passion is why you're interested beyond just uh you know that this person's had a good impact on you I think that could be a really powerful response and you can see how Piper's woven that through her response here yes she's definitely drawing on that personal experience but she's taking that personal experience and she's sort of projecting out ahead for what she thinks she might be able to do with this and and that gives us a sense of you as more than a number you know you're more than ATR more than assignments you are actually starting to show us the kind of uh graduate you might be and that's you know what we're really interested in yeah great good to know that and I think um trying to really as Ken said weave in those interests those hobbies those passions and where that has come from not just making tenuous links between some of the skills or strategies you've got relating that to the actual degree or degrees that you're applying for is an important tip to to note piper your communication and collaboration question um and I know faculties really really look at this one um because it's a skill set that will be required for all of our 300 odd degrees we offer here at the university um collaboration and communication i would suggest probably not necessarily being the loudest person the most extroverted person in the room even though you've mentioned you were school captain for those students or families that might not have the most um communicative or confident young person or students who might look at this question and might not be as confident answering this question um traditionally um I would suggest that being a strong communicator isn't necessarily always being the person that is in front of the class or is in front of a group um it can be demonstrated in many many ways yeah definitely i think some of the the strongest communicators I know are the ones that aren't outward um with talking in front of classrooms and things like that um this is a question where those buzzwords and keywords and soft skills and um even the slide you had earlier um James with all of the the buzzwords if you can refer back to that um students that's a perfect way to start um that one all of those words like your perseverance self-efficacy all of those kinds of things are great to throw through all of your questions um but this communication and collaboration question um it's really really good to even just draw on things from school to start your kind of planning so it might be things like group projects i know that they're compulsory everyone's done them everyone probably has different mixed opinions on them um but that's a great place to start it's really about achieving those common goals um and thinking about the different ways that you did communicate so it might be that you sat back and you listened for a while and then you came up with a game plan before you you gave your opinion it might be that you were a little bit more outward in your approach to communication and you were kind of gathering all the people and noticing that one person is a better listener and they might be a little bit nervous to communicate um those things so there's heaps and heaps of different ways you can go about it i talked about captain um in mine that was kind of the the thing that came to the front of my head but coaching umpiring playing team sports even if you're in a band um and play musical instruments or um you're in like a lunchtime club or something at school um they're all fantastic examples um to talk about in these ones and you really want to kind of emphasize your ability to take on other people's ideas and implement those them as well not just how you communicate as an individual but how you collaborate and work with those other people um to achieve that that common outcome I think is a really important thing um because everyone can talk and everyone can listen um but it takes a a special someone to be able to take on other people's ideas as well and it's something that you'll use throughout the the entirety of your degree and onto your career later on as well yeah I think that's fantastic to hear um yeah those additional maybe non-traditional um communicative skills and those leadership skills um that all students would have um it's just unpacking and unlocking some of those skills that you've got um in your toolkit um those active listening skills those empathy skills those um cultural sensitivity skills all of those things are brilliant in collaborative and communicative roles that you'll be involved in and then finally the last question that we asked Piper about planning persistence and this can be related to a goal that a student may have set or a barrier that they might have overcome or something they're working towards a particular longer term or shorter term goal that they might have um do you want to talk through how you went about this one yeah definitely um so
I made this definitely about myself and a bit of a personal example um my parents were pretty um set on the fact that they weren't buying me a car and I had to do it myself um so that at the time took up a lot of my my head space so you can see that I um spoke about gaining my first job which if you kind of look back at those other questions it almost kind of I don't know Ken can probably confirm um but kind of sets up those ideas that okay I've got a a part-time job maybe I can communicate maybe I can collaborate with other people maybe I am a motivated individual who um is taking that initiative um in other aspects of my life outside of school um but the actions I really spoke about were things like budget sorry budgeting um seeking feedback actively again that organization so it goes back to um kind of that academic readiness and things like that um but
I also spoke about um challenges and things like juggling multiple responsibilities so that was at the time studying and working um as well as sport and things like that um but you can see when you're trying to achieve a goal and work over that goal there will be setbacks um and I think it's a really good opportunity to kind of um acknowledge that there may have been a little bit of a fork in the road or something that may not have gone to plan and how you were able to adapt and adjust and work around that um that challenge to again achieve that that final outcome um and you can talk about if you needed to sacrifice something to make it happen so maybe you had to like I said you had to budget so
I had to say no to going to the movies to make sure that I saved enough to to get the car or whatever it is um but even outlining specific steps might be a fantastic way to go about this as well um like James said earlier you can use dot points please don't feel like you have to write it in the way that I did um dot points are a fantastic way to get your point across as well um and things like numbering for a process would would work as well in this situation yeah once again thanks Piper for those little insights it's really nice for our families and students to see how you went about it and obviously every student will go about this in a different way but it's really nice how um how she's been able to unpack those and color code it tonight and show us what challenges overcome the way that she worked towards it with those verbs and those actions the time frame and quantifying it as well with an outcome um I really appreciate you sharing some of those things and looking back in time and looking at what it was like by far so that's really cool um so reviewing and submitting essentially once you go through those question processes you are ready to submit and I wanted to point out once you submit please don't have trepidation about that because you can go back in and adjust and edit if you have new things you want to talk about if you've forgotten something or if you have an interruption or your mind gets joged on something that you've remembered just before it um the application portal closes you can go in before 5:00 p.m on August the 8th um to adjust but please don't leave submitting your application till August 8th please do it um prior to that and then your screenshot should look a little bit like the one on the screen thank you your early admission application has been submitted and that's a really nice feeling to get it out of the way get it done and I'd suggest um may I to potentially utilize the upcoming school holidays if not before to commence and kick it off and get it done um remembering you can come back in before August 8th get something but it shouldn't really we try and make this as a really efficient and streamlined process as possible um Ken would you agree or disagree feel free to disagree this shouldn't take students more than an hour or two we try and make this really really streamline we know some students will come back in and out and in and out and play with things that's absolutely fine different working styles but essentially that six-step process should happen reasonably smoothly and quickly yeah hopefully a little bit of planning and a bit of drafting uh refer back to this video that's going to be emailed to the email addresses that you registered for uh tonight for this webinar take a look at Piper's Work examples and then run with it from there you can see it's not a lot of writing it's actually all about you so it's just getting those key aspects that reflect you across to the person that's going to be reading it so just to wrap up um we'll look at your your applications once they're submitted and then you can focus on what you need to do at school and your final exam preparations and your major works and assessment tasks and getting set up to commence those in mid mid-occtober um and then as I said your outcomes will come out the week of 1st of September so keep an eye on those emails don't be afraid if your colleague or peer next door in English or maths gets an email before you we know sometimes those emails will come through during school they do sometimes come through in waves depending on faculties and degree so rest assured those emails will come through um in in due course the week of the 1 of September it is a condition for you to complete the HSC or your equivalent or the IB um because we will um be looking if there are is um some misalignment with your year 12 results and you're not sitting the HSC to your full capacity um so we certainly um encourage and recommend to students you do um need to sit the HSC to the best of your capabilities the early admission program is designed to just reduce that stress it is labeled early admission it is one way to come into university utilizing your HSC and your ATR is another important way to come into university and gain even more offers i have mentioned at the bottom of the screen there UAC is another traditional way that students will apply for university as well and that will be using your year12 um assessment and HSC results and ATR to apply now that um is able to use five preferences across different institutions including the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ but if you receive an early admission offer at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and we hope you do and we hope you choose us as your destination you may not need to apply via UAC because once you get an early admission degree offer that is yours it's a conditional offer depending on if you complete the HSC then that offer is yours you don't need to then go and apply via UAC unless you want to look at some other degrees and that's where your U12 results come into play yep so in summary um there's some fast facts um if you are looking to defer your degree if you get offered a degree um and you are interested or planning to take a gap year whether it's 6 months or 12 months um you can defer your offer and that jargon of deferring just means letting us know that you would like to take some time away after you complete year 12 um you are able to fill in a document and a form to apply to defer your your offer we will not take that offer away that is your offer that you've earned through 13 years of hard work we will hold that offer and you can come back and recommence your study when you are ready and generally we will hold on to that offer for 12 months for you um and beyond if there's extenduating circumstances and evidence now our wonderful team on the back end at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Bulong has put together a very comprehensive frequently asked questions page on our website and I really encourage families schools and students to have a look at this frequently asked questions page it it's very comprehensive um It answers a lot of questions that we've covered tonight and in further depth more than likely so please have a look at that frequently asked if you feel like something wasn't covered tonight or you haven't had that answered live via the webinar this evening i did want to cap off in the next couple of minutes before we wrap up before the end of the hour about some scholarships on offer into the future um the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Bulong has some incredible scholarship opportunities that will be on the horizon um on the screen is just a summary of some of the different scholarships that will be available um whether it's academic equity community corporate government university focus there will be a range of scholarships that are on the horizon for students and families to start um gauging whether they're firstly eligible and whether that is of interest to them to apply for some that I did want to flag this evening um in the webinar that are on the horizon for students in the Elaware Southernland or Shaw Haven will have the UW academic excellence scholarship on offer a $10,000 scholarship for eligible students who receive an early admission offer and this will be based off early admission applications meeting academic criteria by their early admission application and they'll be encouraged to apply upon invitation for this one so that's an exciting one that's being launched into the months ahead we'll have our principal recommendation scholarship um for various regions um locally across um MacArthur Southerntherland the Windsor Caribbe and Shaw Haven regions i apologize if you're in other regions of New South Wales um there will be other scholarships so this is just one particular one a $5,000 scholarship um where principles and leaders at our schools will nominate a student who's received an early admission offer we have our management cadet ship now this isn't a scholarship um per se this is a cadet ship program at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ that is open at the moment um I will skip forward because there are six degrees to be eligible to apply for the management cadet ship um you may be interested in applying by early admission for one of these degrees if one of these degrees is on your agenda and on the horizon for you to apply for you will be eligible to apply for the management cadet ship this is a separate application it's not automatically that you are considered for this you do have to apply and this is where you work for the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ during the duration of your degree and you will earn a salary as listed on the screen which is pretty incredible um there are only two of these on offer each year so it is quite a competitive cadetship program and once you graduate from the university you will not graduate with a hex and help loan which is a pretty incredible opportunity um plus also the most um I guess crucial opportunity as well as being paid is the experience you'll receive from a top 1% globally university working across our different divisions and units here at the university in strategy in legal in marketing in planning in finance across the various teams in management cadet ship roles we'll have our country to coast scholarship um that'll be eligible for students from particular regions from um regional New South Wales um this will be automatically considered you do not have to apply for this one if you come from an eligible school there'll be a $5,000 scholarship um for early admission students who take up full-time study in 2026 um and these are stackable on top of other degrees that you um are eligible for and potentially earn so that's how it works 2500 paid on commencement in January another 1,250 paid in your first session then a 1250 um third payment in your second session of study for eligible students across New South Wales um in our more regional areas so a great scholarship available a range of equity scholarships that can be investigated and applied via UAC um you can investigate these via our ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ website and also the UAC website um up to $5,000 equity scholarships for students who may have had financial or personal hardship or educational disadvantage um so great to investigate there's a tertiary access payment via the Australian government and center link that I would be investigating especially students from rural and regional and remote areas who are relocating to ¾«¶«´«Ã½ to study um that's another payment that would be stackable and I did want to cap off um about UW accommodation applications have launched if you are interested in living on one of our campus villages please have a look at the UW accommodation website applications have launched and are open so the residents portal has open and you can register your interest and put in an application for your various preferences whether you'd like to live on campus or closer to the beach over at beautiful fairy meadow or at our house close to the north wallong train station and also close to the city and the campus as well there's three great options whether you'd like to live in studio by yourself with other students in um in different apartment style accommodation whether you'd like catering or self-catered there's a range of preferences so
I encourage families to put applications in early for accommodation because places will fill up in the months ahead and come in and see us if you didn't get the chance to come for a discovery day or an open day experience you can book a tour and the school holidays is a great opportunity to come in for a free tour you can book those via our via our website on the screen there come in and have a look at our campus come in and have a look at our um residential villages at Koolibong um it's a great opportunity to come in with families or friends and roam the campus with students like Piper piper gives tours um so you might even see her on campus um and some of our other great students and you might even see um Ken on campus and give him a wave while you're on campus so there's the timeline ahead um we're at the 30th of June tonight with our webinar accommodation is opened the Liverpool open day is coming up on the 26th of July a reminder that early admission closes on the 8th of August outcomes will come out the week of the 1st of September you'll then go and do your HSC with the reassurance and confidence that you may have received an early admission application outcome and a positive outcome to then go and jump in and dive in and complete your HSC with confidence and then you'll receive your ATARs on the 18th of December ready to apply for other degrees you might be interested in and scholarships and leadership opportunities utilizing those strong ATR and HSC results yes and those in southwest Sydney the MacArthur Campbell Town and even the Ilawar and other Sydney regions our Liverpool open day is on the 26th of July so register that'll be a great open day we have our new Liverpool campus opening for 2026 and a really exciting open day experience ahead so
I'll wrap up there i'm conscious that we have a number of questions that have come in by the Q&A so we're happy to stay behind and answer some of those if you need any more advice our future students team are brilliant they are open Monday to Friday 9 till 5 feel free to give them a call or an email they are fantastic at responding to some of your um you know intricate questions i'd like to thank Ken and Piper for their time and expertise tonight thank you Dr cliff and Piper you have been brilliant as always thank you very much thanks for having us Tim pleasure thanks both and we will um have a look at some of the questions that might float in late um otherwise please enjoy the rest of your evening stay warm stay safe and we will see you here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ and we're excited to have our year 12 students commence with us next year thanks all if there's any questions that I see in the Q&A that I think I can answer aloud I will also I've got a question here will UAW look at year 12 marks um when assessing the early admission application um we generally look at year 11 results um that's to make it fair and equitable across Australia because as you can imagine um students and families that are in the room tonight all schools operate on different assessments and trial exam timelines um so to make it fair we look at year 11 results as our main assessment criteria for academic results and then we'll look at the obviously the questions that we've unpacked tonight as well if there's been extenduating circumstances where year 11 studies have been missed or there's been um prominent time away from school um there may be extenduating circumstances you submit and we will be talking to Nessa um and schools about those but generally your 11 grades will be the results we'll be looking at another question I can see there that I'm happy to answer is there a specific date by which students receive an early admissions offer they have to accept it by generally no um in our emails um when we make a student an offer we're not going to put pressure and force upon a student to accept that offer we want students to go and flourish and thrive with confidence in their HSC exams and finish off strongly with their year 12 studies we're not going to put unnecessary demands and pressure on a student to accept an offer um so there won't be a golden or green button to say accept and you have to accept your offer we're not going to be ringing and spamming students to say you've got your offer and you have to accept it um that won't happen at our institution and we have full confidence and faith that our students are well informed and well researched um so what will happen after students receive an offer that is their offer it is not going away we're not going to take it away um that I wanted to demystify that um that students offer is theirs and we will not take it away they can sit on that offer um towards the end of the year and deeper into the year um in January and February as well because we know students sometimes take some time to work out where they want to go and what they want to be and study with us at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Bulong um there will be a prompt to enroll in your degree because enrollments will open deeper into December once students have finished the HSC so they will get a prompt to if they want to take out take on our degree and enroll that will be available to them but they do not have to accept it straight away and I wanted to let families know about that question here about interstate um students interstate students you will have the ability to upload your assessment and grades and performances um from your schooling um if you've had interruptions or educational impacts there is an ability to put extenduating circumstances and or your results as well into the portal so if you are from interstate um you can put those results and those assessment pieces into the application portal i see a question here about a fashion degree here at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ we don't offer um fashion um typically at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ it's not one of our areas that we offer i apologize for that one um some other institutions will offer that one we offer a range of other creative degrees and business degrees that may be related to the fashion industry but particularly we don't offer any of our bachelor degrees in fashion specifically but
I would um recommend having a look at some of our business degrees um some of our creative arts degrees and design degrees communications and media degrees um that might be relatable to that industry but particularly specifically we don't offer fashion i can see a question here about financial penalty if you apply for accommodation and don't accept it the only um financial implication for applying for accommodation when you apply for accommodation there is a small nominal fee um to apply and that's just an application administrative fee to apply for accommodation as you can imagine we have thousands of op applications each year so there is a small administrative fee um and if you apply for accommodation you will have to pay for that fee um and then if you want to take on um your accommodation place it's offered to you um once early admission results come out you can take on that accommodation um offer and then you'll be required to um to proceed forward with that offer um that's the only financial penalty that could come into play you would um obviously just lose that administrative fee if you decided not to pursue your accommodation um place that we offer you so that fee would be lost but as I said it's only a small fee i believe in the realm um of 30ish dollars i should know that um but yeah that's all displayed publicly on our website there's a question here that I'll answer live as well about um year 11 results being assessed will the subjects directly correlating to the degree be especially looked at or will all your subjects being assessed equally um for that question for students who have performed extremely well in their year 11 results for particular subjects that are related to a degree our faculties may look closely at some of your results for um particular degrees for relatable subjects that have assumed and recommended knowledge um especially for those degrees but we will be looking holistically at all your year 11 grades let it be known um but particularly for some degrees we will dive deeper in and look at especially if you are on the threshold or cusp of an offer for that degree we will look at some individual results and see if you are completing particular HSC subjects and also how you perform in some of those subjects as well there's a question in here about um doing distance education via an external provider um and that being a disrupted schooling experience i would talk about that we're happy to for you to submit documentation about that um if you're if you're doing distance ed and you can talk about that um in your application and our faculties will look at that but
I would be weaving that into one of the criteria um responses and indicators of success responses and talk about how you've overcome that barrier and how you've shown some resilience and fortitude and planning and set a goal to complete that subject despite the barriers that you've overcome with that uh subject not being offered at your school so that's how I would go about that particular question so if that answers you there's a question here about if I don't potentially perform um well in my HSC results will my early admission offer be revoked um to answer that question um from time to time it happens very rarely because what we see and through the decades of this program being offered students who receive an early admission offer generally go on and flourish extremely well in the HSC because it gives them a real shot in the arm an extreme hit of confidence to go you know what I've been rewarded for my incredible um 13 years of schooling and dedication I've put in I've received this early admission offer and then then they've got a few weeks to then go and prepare as best as they can for the HSC early admission is designed for that bad day you might have in the exam room we know sometimes on your way to school you might have a tough morning um with family or financially or with sickness or something might have interrupted you or you might get a curly question in one of your HSC exams and things might throw you you might have a mind blank you might have some interruptions in the exam room early admission is designed as that insurance policy and that security blanket to give you that confidence and that sense of security to go I've got this i've got my early admission conditional offer um if I get um thrown a thrown a curly question in my English exam or my physics exam or whatever it might be the world's not going to fall apart we understand sometimes an HSC exam doesn't go um as best as you plan but what early admission is designed to do is reward your early results if however students step into an exam and don't perform to the best of their ability across all exams and don't put in the effort required there has been moments where we've had to revoke an offer and retract those offer and have an interview with our faculties and potentially offer an alternative offer or remove an offer that is very rare um because as I said students generally then go on and flourish with confidence knowing they've been rewarded with their results and then utilizing their HSC to optimize their next step opportunities to apply for even more degrees and apply for leadership and scholarship opportunities and start their university journey really well there's a question in here about being on exchange um because we know that happens um across Australia students go on exchange overseas which is a fantastic experience and opportunity um so when students are on exchange um I would suggest once again talking about that from a positive sense in their early admission responses um and talking about how that has added vibrancy and creativity and experiential um impacts in a positive sense to their extracurricular and academic pursuits i think that would be a brilliant talking point in at least one of their criteria responses um I would also um encourage you if um there was interruption and impacts that can be submitted um we won't typically consider that as an interruption because that has been opted into um and students and families have decided to go on exchange um as an opt-in value ad rather than a disruption um um however if there was impacts as a result of that um that that can um that can be um can happen from time to time so you can submit that um and we can look at it however generally we would be looking at that as a positive thing that a student's gone exchange if students are doing distance education um via distance ed provider um you can submit results um and add that documentation in if there is an external or a different provider there is an opportunity to add those academic performance results from year 11 um from that provider into our portal and that's what it's designed to do so yes it can be added in um generally automatically I would suggest that would be extracted from the provider um and from the department of education and NESSA um that have been uploaded but there is an opportunity to add that documentation evidence of performance in via that provider as well there's an early admission question here about nursing that I'll um answer um about doing potential um HSC subjects um we will assess you for a nursing degree across all of your HSC results um we do have things called assumed and recommended studies in the HSC for our degrees um and generally for nursing we will look at all of your subjects but also in particular we will be looking um at you completing some maths and also some science whether that's biology or chemistry in your HSC which is also um always very valuable um they're recommended subjects they're not prerequisites um but just letting you know um some of those subjects um are valuable um to come into a nursing degree um but there are no prerequisites for particular degrees um in that particular um degree that you've asked about in nursing all students will be undertaking English in their HSC um so every student has undertaken English um the English language proficiency test you might be referring to in the early admission application you will need to um disclose whether you've completed schooling here in Australia and if you haven't you may be required to do an English language proficiency test um before commencing the degree you don't have to do that during the HSC or before the HSC that can be done after before you enroll and undertake your Bachelor of Nursing degree at the university hopefully that's answered what you're asking there's a question here about um students being from New South Wales or interstate uh New South Wales students more likely to receive an offer as opposed to interstate students students are assessed equally and equitably um whe regardless if they're from New South Wales or interstate um we will be looking at their performance their grades and their responses to see if they are a good fit um academically and also socially and humanistically to that degree via their responses and their grades so regardless if you're from New South Wales or from another state we'll be looking at your your application um without a lens based on your state or territory you study in a team are just working on a few final questions then we might wrap it up for the evening if there are any additional questions um please let it be known that our future students team will be back in the office from 9:00 a.m tomorrow and throughout the week and in the weeks ahead to answer some of these questions and a lot of these questions are on our FAQ um portal as well on our early admission um homepage so um we might let our team wrap up with the questions that have been submitted and they're they're replying to right now and then we might um end up finishing up this evening um because I'm conscious of our team's valuable time and also of our attendees valuable time in the evening ahead so we might wrap up in a moment but thank you for those remaining in the room this evening and listening into some of these responses your questions are brilliant um they're always highly valued um please I encourage have a look at the FAQs and also be in contact via phone or email to our future students team and we will help you out with the remainder of questions you might have

UOW Early Admission is our early offer program for students finishing Year 12 in 2025 (HSC or other Australian equivalents). Instead of relying solely on your final year 12 results, we consider your Year 11 performance, skills, and experiences—giving you the chance to secure a place at UOW before your final exams even begin.
In 2025, Early Admission applications will open on Monday, 16 June, and will close at 5pm on Friday, 8 August.
Late applications will not be accepted and UOW will not be able to offer any extensions. If you miss applying to UOW during the Early Admission period, you can still apply to UOW. Please see our Apply page to find the admission process that’s right for your situation.
To be eligible to apply, you must be:
- In Year 12 in 2025; and
- Completing the HSC, an interstate equivalent, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma at an Australian high school; and
- Eligible to be awarded the Higher School Certificate, IB Diploma or interstate equivalent.
Students in their final year of HSC Pathways are also eligible to apply.
If you aren’t eligible to apply to UOW through Early Admission don’t worry, there are many other admission options available. Visit our Apply page to find the admission process that’s right for your situation.
Students studying in the Big Picture program should apply directly to UOW. See other entry options for more information.
Applications will only be accepted via the UOW Early Admission website between Monday, 16 June and Friday, 8 August 2025.
All Year 12 students subscribed to the UOW Future Student Newsletter will receive a notification once applications open.
If you are a NSW HSC or ACT Year 12 applicant, you will be asked to provide your NESA number (issued through your school) and . Supplying this information allows your Early Admission application to be pre-populated with details such as your Year 11 results, which will simplify the application process.
There are six steps to submitting your application:
- Registration: Provide personal/contact details and relevant information. One of the first things you'll do is enter your email address. We will send a verification email to that email address before you can proceed; so make sure you enter a correct email address that you have access to.
- Additional Details: Opt in to receive more information on UOW offerings like scholarships and accommodation.
- Qualifications: If you entered your NESA number, your year 11 marks will be pre-populated, and you won't need to do any more in this section.
You may need to manually upload qualifications as PDF documents if:
- You're applying from interstate.
- You're studying via a compressed curriculum structure.
- You're studying the International Baccalaureate (IB). - Course Preferences: Enter one or two UOW courses for consideration. You can search for courses using keywords, study areas, or UAC codes. Changes can be made until 5pm, Friday, 8 August.
Use the UOW Course Finder to find the right courses for you. - Questionnaires: Respond to four questions related to UOW’s Indicators of success: Academic Readiness, Motivation & Passion, Communication & Collaboration, and Planning & Persistence. Each answer has a 500-character limit (including spaces).
- Review and Submit: Review your application, read the Early Admission program conditions, then submit.
You can edit any part of your application after you submit it; if you do make sure to submit it again after making any changes.
If you can't find your preferred course in the Early Admission system, it may be because you're searching for a major or specialisation within that degree. Selecting your major or specialisation typically happens during enrolment or even later in your studies.
For instance, the UOW Bachelor of Arts program offers 13 majors. However, when applying, you only need to select the Bachelor of Arts. If you receive an offer for the degree, you will choose your major when you enrol. This process applies to other degrees like Business, Engineering, Science etc.
If you are a NSW HSC or ACT Year 12 applicant, you will be asked to provide your NESA number (issued through your school) and . Supplying this information allows your Early Admission application to be pre-populated with details such as your Year 11 results, which will simplify the application process.
If your final year of schooling is based on curriculum other than NSW HSC or ACT Year 12, or you are completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, you will need to upload your results using the template provided in the Early Admission portal. These templates will be on the website after Early Admission opens.

Yes, you must answer all four questions to be considered for Early Admission. Each question provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate your academic readiness, motivation & passion; communication & collaboration; and planning & persistence.
The application system won't allow you to submit an application without attempting each question. Each response must be a minimum of 100, and a maximum of 500 characters including spaces.
*You can answer the question using dot-points if that's easier for you.
*If you do just use an asterisks ( * ) to separate your points like at the beginning of this line.

- Communication and Collaboration: Describe a time when you worked with others to achieve a goal?
- Planning and Persistence: Tell us about a time when you set yourself a goal and worked hard to achieve a good result?

This may happen if your response is too long or too short. Each response must include at least 100 characters (including spaces) and a maximum of 500 characters (including spaces). Anything under 100 characters won't be allowed, and the system will 'cut you off' after your 500th character. The boxes in which you'll enter each response have the number '500' next to it; it will count down as you start typing.
(To give you an idea, the paragraph above is 410 characters including spaces).

Please also provide your own mobile number in the contact details section. UOW may need to contact you during various stages of the application process. Being able to contact you directly and in a timely manner helps us to help you get all the information you need during the Early Admission process. â¶Ä¯
If you don’t have your own personal mobile you can input the mobile phone number of your parent or caregiver as the next best contact. If you provide contact details of someone other than yourself, we won’t disclose any information about you or your application to them unless you have nominated them in the third-party consent section of your application, which will be under the ‘About Yourself’ heading.
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your individual education number for life. It is allocated and administered by the Australian Government, not universities.
In your Early Admission application, the USI field is optional, meaning you can leave it blank if you don't have a USI yet.

Setting up a USI is free, will only take about 10 minutes and will last you forever!

We don't need your year 12 results as part of your Early Admission application.
UOW Applications are assessed based on applicants' year 11 results. This is because we know that every applicant will have a set of year 11 results for us to assess, but we can't say the same for year 12 results. So to be fair to all applicants we only require, and will only assess year 11 results.
To assess you for Early Admission, we need to be able to see all subjects taken in Year 11 and the overall result for each subject (not individual assessment marks).  If you have received an email advising that your Year 11 results are in a format we cannot use, please work with your school to ‘translate’ your grades into a format that meets our assessment guidelines and accepted grading scales.
The templates for providing this information are provided below. Please download the form specific to your state/territory/Year 12 qualification and gather this information from your school.
