Should Australian schools provide daily meals to students?
Dr Katherine Kent can discuss the health benefits of Australian schools providing meals to students. Australia is one of the only high-income countries that does not provide a daily meal at school. In an article Dr Kent co-authored for she writes:
International research shows universal school meal programs – where all children are provided with a healthy meal at school each day – can improve both health and educational outcomes for students.
In Australia, children either bring a packed lunch or buy food at the school canteen. But the vast majority of these lunches don’t meet kids’ dietary needs.

Dr Katharina Peters can explain why dolphins jump out of the water. In an article for Dr Peters says there are many reasons a dolphin may jump out of the water including to stay in contact with each other, for speed, to gather food, to fight and to frolic. is a behavioural ecologist who studies marine mammals. She is from UOW’s School of Science.
What’s the difference between gluten intolerance and coeliac disease?
Professor Yasmine Probst says around one in 10 Australians follow a gluten-free diet but self-diagnosing and removing gluten without proper guidance might do you more harm than good. In an article she co-authored for Professor Probst writes:
Avoiding gluten when you don’t need to can lead to nutritional deficiencies. Gluten-free products can also be more expensive and are sometimes higher in sugar, salt and fat to help compensate for texture and taste. Before making any changes to your diet, it is best to speak with an accredited practising dietitian to make sure you’re not missing out on important nutrients.
