Former ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Newcastle and UNSW leader brings expertise to role
The ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of ¾«¶«´«Ã½ (UOW) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Mark Hoffman as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Life) from 23 June 2025 through to the end of the year.
Professor Hoffman is a distinguished academic leader with a career spanning senior roles at the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Newcastle and UNSW. He brings extensive experience in academic leadership, having led major institutional initiatives across education programs, student success, Indigenous education, equity and innovation.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Max Lu welcomed the appointment and highlighted the importance of strong leadership at this time of sector-wide change.
“Professor Hoffman’s appointment strengthens our executive team and ensures we continue to build the strong foundations needed for UOW’s next chapter,” Professor Lu said.
“Mark is not only a proven leader, he is deeply committed to the role of universities in transforming lives and shaping society. His values and vision are closely aligned with those of our institution.”
Professor Hoffman will hold the interim position through to the end of 2025, while the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ undertakes a global search for a permanent appointment. Mark’s appointment is a short-term and he will not be a candidate for the currently advertised Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) role.
“I am delighted to be joining UOW during this important period,” Professor Hoffman said. “The ¾«¶«´«Ã½’s commitment to excellence, innovation and equity is well recognised, and I look forward to working closely with staff and students to help advance its strategic goals.”
Professor Hoffman will begin meeting with academic and professional staff across the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ in the weeks ahead.
