Woolyungah is proud to share partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), working closely alongside Aunty Sharon Bloxsome to support and empower our mob through education, resources, and meaningful opportunities.
This collaboration is focused on making sure our community is informed, heard, and represented when it comes to voting. Through initiatives like Yarn and Learn sessions and community education programs, we’re breaking down the voting process—what it means, why it matters, and how every single vote can help shape our collective future. These sessions will be run by our Woolyungah Student Ambassadors and Aunty Sharon.
During these sessions we will walk participants through the preferential voting system, showing exactly how to vote, where to vote, and the power behind each ballot paper. Importantly, we’ll also be offering support on how to enrol to vote, and how to update or change your voting details.
Together, we’ll also be co-designing culturally relevant resources, including digital storytelling projects that highlight the voices of local Aboriginal people and their personal connections to voting. These stories will explore what it means to vote as an Indigenous person and why participation in elections matters on both personal and cultural levels, for their community.
Alongside this, we’re working with the AEC to share valuable resources and promote job opportunities—up to 100,000 temporary election roles.
This is more than a partnership. A step toward greater representation, inclusion, education and empowerment. Stay tuned for upcoming sessions and opportunities to get involved.
